When Does a Hard Hat Need To Be Replaced?
Although there is no set service life for when hard hats are to be replaced, there are some guidelines for best practice. Hard hats and their components should bereplaced if:
The hat has been in constant use for more than 3 years.
The harness been in constant use for 2 years or more.
There are signs of wear and tear to either the helmet shell or harness.
An impact has occurred that would have caused the wearer injury, which could have weakened the integrity of the hard hat.
Additionally, your hard hat must be replaced when:
The shell becomes brittle.
The shiny surface appears dull, chalky or changes colour.
Cracks appear in the shell.
The helmet surface has had a significant impact.
Also, your hard hat harness must be replaced when:
One or more of the mounts break off.
The harness becomes brittle.
The harness will no longer hold securely to the head.
The cradling straps become weak or worn.
