What Standards Do Hi Vis Safety Vests Need to Comply To?

High visibility safety vests are required to comply with the standard AS/NZS 4602.1:2011. The standard outlines the requirements for the design, performance and testing of high visibility clothing. These include the minimum levels of retroreflectivity and fluorescent material that must be used in the fabric, the standard design and placement of the reflective tape on the garment and the overall durability (resistance to fading, abrasion, weathering, etc.).

PRO Choice hi vis safety vests are commonplace in Australian worksites. Available in yellow or orange, the day safety vests are compliant to AS/NZS 4602:2011 Class D, as they have no reflective tape. However, the hi vis day/night safety vests are compliant to AS/NZS 4602:2011 Class D/N thanks to the H pattern 3M reflective tape on the front and back of the vest.
