Gas Cylinder Cages

Gas cylinders are used in a wide range of industries such as manufacturing, hospitality, construction, medical, and pharmaceuticals, to name a few. Due to the severe risks posed by these objects, it goes without saying that a safety protocol must be followed.
The major concern with gas cylinders is workplace safety — a problem that plagues many corporations all over Australia. Because high-pressure cylinders are classified as Class 2 Dangerous Goods, the Australian Government has strict requirements for storing these items.
According to AS4332-2004 and AS/NZS 1596, cylinders must be stored upright in secure, lockable cages in order to prevent tampering and unauthorised access. To comply with these safety regulations, you need high-quality cylinder cages.
Cylinder Hazards and Storage Safety
The problem with cylinders is the way they’re shaped — while the tall and slim shape makes logistics a lot easier, it adds to the safety risks involved in manual handling. This shape makes them susceptible to falling and being knocked over, which is a serious hazard around the workplace.
The cylinders must be caged and strapped in place so they don’t move around — especially if they contain volatile gases. We cannot stress enough the importance of storing cylinders properly. Having a safety protocol around flammable and dangerous substances in the workplace can make a potentially life-saving difference.
Pressurised gas cylinders pose severe physiochemical and handling risks. Especially in the case of cylinders that contain volatile gases, it’s important to note that they need to be kept rock steady — they can’t be shaken around because the gases could start decomposing and reacting.
Some of the dangers that cylinder cages help to mitigate include:
Manual Handling Risks
- Injuries such as fractures and sprains due to cylinders falling over
- Cylinder damage leading to uncontrolled gas discharge
- Fire hazards
Physiochemical Hazards:
- Exposure to corrosive gases
- Fire and explosion hazards
- Asphyxiation due to gas leaks
- Frostbites and cold wounds from liquified gases such as LPG or Nitrogen
Why Use BIG Safety Gas Cylinder Cages?
Safety is what we practice, all-day, every day. We only stock the highest quality workplace safety gear. Our cylinder cages are constructed using 100% welded, heavy-duty aluminum which makes them strong and corrosion-free.
These durable cages are available in a number of sizes and configurations which makes them easy to handle. We also provide safety equipment for storing corrosive chemicals, if that's something you require, we suggest looking into our collection of flammable storage cabinets and corrosive chemical storage cabinets.
