Industrial Cotton Gloves for Workers

5 products

PRO Choice’s extensive range of safety gloves has continued to evolve for more than 30 years, ensuring that even the most rugged of Australia’s industrial workplaces are protected.

When it comes to caring for two of your more vital assets — and let’s face it, hands are an extremely important part of life — choosing a task-specific and well fitting glove is imperative.

Why Wear Cotton Gloves for Work?

Wearing cotton gloves might not seem like the ultimate in hand protection, but when worn as a base layer they can make a world of difference.

Available in either standard interlock or knit, PRO Choice poly/cotton gloves have a number of uses. The most common of which is as a liner glove.

Washable and cost-effective to replace, wearing them as a liner inside another glove can increase the lifespan of the outer glove.

In the catering and food services industry, the thicker interlock poly/cotton knit liners provide a small amount of thermal protection. This is especially beneficial when regular heat contact is a part of the job.

Interlock poly/cotton gloves are also frequently worn inside boxing gloves and other sweaty environments, where moisture absorption is required.

What Type of Safety Glove Should You Use?

There are a multitude of jobs, tasks and roles that require proper safety gloves that cater directly to the risks involved. When selecting a glove, consider the following:

1. Task

What are the risks associated with your task? Does it involve working with heat or chemicals? Is there a chance of being cut or getting a puncture wound?

2. Fit

The right size glove is imperative. If it’s too big there’s a chance it’ll get caught in machinery, too small and it’ll result in loss of movement.

3. Dexterity

Does the glove provide sufficient dexterity for the task at hand? For example, do you need to pick up sensitive computer equipment or handle delicate tools?

4. Material

What material are the gloves made from? Kevlar is good for heat and cut resistance, while PVC or nitrile are a good choice for keeping chemicals and water at bay. Skin sensitivity also plays a role. Are you allergic to certain materials, such as latex?

Hand Safety: Reducing Injuries in the Workplace

There’s no doubt that Australians understand the vital role their hands play, both for their job and their overall quality of life. Despite this, hand and wrist injuries remain a common occurrence throughout Australia.

Work Cover WA reported that in 2018/19, 4,786 hand injury claims were lodged in Western Australia alone. Some of the most common causes included the use of sharp-edged appliances and operating unguarded machinery.

Ways to reduce hand injuries in the workplace include wearing the correct glove for the task, ensuring gloves fit properly and replacing them when they’re broken. Proper training is also key. If workers aren’t sure which gloves to wear or why, the risk of injury increases.
