AS/NZS 1801 has been updated, with AS/NZS 1801:2024 now superseding the 1997 version.
The key changes relate to updated performance testing, clearer helmet classifications, improved retention/chin strap requirements, and closer alignment with international standards (e.g. EN 397 / EN 12492).
Importantly, this does not invalidate existing helmets certified to AS/NZS 1801:1997. Products remain compliant to the standard they were certified to at the time of manufacture and can continue to be used in line with their condition, service life, and site-specific policies.
The main impact is on new product certifications and future range updates, which will progressively transition to the 2024 standard
